Hardness Grade of Zirconia
Zirconium oxide (ZrO₂) has a Mohs hardness of approximately 8.5, second only to diamond (10) and corundum (9). This means it can easily scratch glass (hardness 5.5) but will be cut by diamond. Through special stabilization treatments, the hardness of zirconia ceramics can be further enhanced, making it an ideal choice for combating wear in industrial applications.
